Course content

The course is an individual reading course with focus on acquiring knowledge in a relevant research area that relates to the PhD student's thesis. The aim is to acquire knowledge of theories and methods within the current research area based on previous research.

Course information

The course is given four times per year and is an individual course. The course requires a written report as well as an oral presentation. The PhD student and their supervisor/co-supervisors are responsible for nomination of at least two potential co-examiners. Only one of the nominated co-examiners will be engaged during the course. The examiner takes the final decision regarding the appointment of the co-examiner.

Being co-examiner means reading the student's written report based on the course literature and submitting written feedback (max 1 A4 page) to the ordinary examiner, as well as participating in the oral presentation, which takes approximately 30-60 minutes.

The report should be first read and checked by the supervisor/co-supervisor before it is submitted to the examiner, co-examiner and the course coordinator.

Books can be part of the course literature. However, the reading and the report should refer to the original articles that the books refer to.

The examinations in the autumn of 2021 are held on October 29th and December 17th.
