Research ethics and good research practice, 3 credits - Autumn semester

The course is part of the courses offered for the three subjects Disability Research, Sports Science and Medical Science within the Faculty of Medicine and Health and is compulsory for PhD-students admitted to these subjects from the autumn of 2022.

Course main content

The aim of the course is for doctoral students to acquire a wider knowledge base and an in-depth understanding of research ethics and good research practice. The aim is further to enable doctoral students to pursue discussions on normative ethics, critically discuss ethical aspects of applications for ethical vetting, and reflect on research misconduct as well as discrimination issues and their relevance to quality of research. The course content is organized in four areas 1) normative ethics, 2) ethical guidelines for research and ethical review, 3) good research practice and research integrity and 4) gender equality and equality as quality aspects in research.

Teaching formats

The course is held on campus with lectures, seminars, and literature reading. The course is held during 8 weeks at the start of each semester and is planned to require 80 hours of study. The course is held in English, but if all students prefer Swedish, lectures or seminars in Swedish may occur. Scheduled occasions on campus (N.B. Preliminary!) :

Each term a maximum of 24 students are admitted. If there are fewer than 10 students, they are referred to the next term. The course is given at least one time per year even if the minimum number is not reached.
