Docentship at the ENT faculty

The title of docent signifies a certain level of expertise. The holder has demonstrated autonomous research ability and teaching competency, and they possess a notably higher degree of research expertise than is required for a doctoral degree.

Normally, a docent is appointed in one of the subjects that are established as a main field of study or subjects offered at the doctoral level within ENT:

  • Biology
  • Business administration
  • Chemistry
  • Civil engineering
  • Computer engineering
  • Computer science
  • Culinary arts and hospitality science
  • Culinary arts and meal science
  • Economics
  • Electrical engineering
  • Environmental science
  • Informatics
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Statistics

Application and decision process

Those seeking appointment as a non-salaried docent must apply for it. An academic appointment committee processes the docent application prior to a decision by the faculty board. This means that the committee first decides if an application fulfils the requirements, then forwards it for an external expert assessment. When the external expert’s report has been received, the committee gives their recommendation to the faculty board to either appoint the applicant as a non-salaried docent or to reject the application.
