About Anna Drakenberg

Anna Drakenberg, PhD and registered nurse, works in cardiothoracic intensive care at Örebro University Hospital and conducts research focusing on patient well-being and recovery in connection with elective open-heart surgery. Her research also includes the experiences and well-being of family members, as well as their perspectives on the care provided.

Following her PhD defense in 2025, Anna will continue to evaluate the long-term effects of the intervention family health conversations, including its health economic impact on a societal level. She is also involved in several other research projects, including one based at Karolinska Institutet, which examines cognitive recovery after cardiac surgery—also from both patient and family perspectives.

Anna also contributes to a research project exploring the use of ultrasound by specialist nurses in clinical practice. This project is led by clinically active researchers in cardiothoracic and intensive care at Uppsala University Hospital.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Anna teaches at the School of Health Sciences at Örebro University, primarily through supervising undergraduate and graduate theses.

In 2017, Anna founded the clinical network National Network for Thoracic Intensive Care Nurses (NTHIS), where she remains an active member. She is also engaged in the Swedish Association for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (AnIva).
