About Eleonor Kristoffersson

Eleonor Kristoffersson is a Professor of Law at Örebro University since 2010. She  received her PhD in Commercial Law from Jönköping International Business School in 2001. In 2003, she was appointed Associate Professor (Docent) at Uppsala University, where she also became a full Professor in 2009.

Her academic career is rooted in tax law, with a particular focus on value-added tax (VAT) and procedural issues. She is an internationally recognized scholar in the field and has participated in several interdisciplinary and cross-border research projects. Her research is characterized by a strong societal commitment and a desire to contribute to legally secure and efficient tax systems. 

Since becoming a professor, she has broadened her research both within and beyond the field of law. Her current research areas include:

1. Law, Digital Technologies, and AI
She is involved in several research projects focusing on artificial intelligence, including:

  • AI to alleviate loneliness among the elderly
  • AI and financial ecosystems
  • AI and private regulation
  • AI and money laundering

2. Aging Research
Between 2017 and 2024, she served as Director of Studies for Örebro University's graduate schools in aging research, overseeing 34 doctoral students. She now leads Global Challenges Team 1 (GCT1) on health and aging within the framework of Mirai – a collaboration between seven Japanese and ten Swedish universities.


3. Crisis and Transformation
Eleonor Kristoffersson leads Örebro University's profile area Crisis and Transformation, which takes a holistic view of crises. The analysis includes not only the crisis and the transformation itself, but also the underlying factors. The goal is to contribute to sustainable solutions through innovation and transformation of systems, behaviors, and values – ultimately aiming to create a more resilient world.

Eleonor primarily teaches tax law, business law, and legal methodology. She is also actively engaged in teaching related to the role of law in digitalization and societal transformation. She supervises doctoral and master’s students and has a particular interest in integrating research and teaching in interdisciplinary.
