About Mia von Euler

Mia von Euler is professor of Neurology at Örebro universitet and a senior consultant in Neurology at the university hospital of Örebro. Since August 2020 Mia is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

Mia received her education at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden where she graudated from Medical School in 1992 and defended her thesis “Experimental spinal cord injuries, a histological, neurological, and pharmacological study in the rat.” in 1999. She became a licensed physician in 2001, became a specialist in Neurology in 2007 and in Clinical Pharmacology in 2013. She became associated professor of Neurology at Karolinska Institutet in 2007 and a lecturer in 2013. From 2020 she is Professor of Neurology at Örebro University.

RESEARCH

Mia von Euler’s research the last 20 years has been focused on different aspects of stroke even though she also has a strong interest in neuropharmacology. While she did mainly preclinical, laborative research during the first part of her career the last 15 years has been focused on clinical research. She has worked with clinical trials, both randomized and obersvational, registry-based research, and even some qualitative research. Besides stroke and neuropharmacology, sex&gender differences have been a strong interest. Mia has an extensive collaboration with national and international researchers and is at present involved in:

  • Endovascular treatment of acute stroke in Sweden, registry based studies
  • Differences between men and women in strokecare in Sweden
  • Covid-19 and stroke in Sweden and the Baltic region
  • Triage instruments in acute stroke
  • Stroke in dementia patients

TEACHING

Mia von Euler has been course leader and lectured in Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology on graduate, post-graduate, and during continuous medical education to physicians and nurses. She has also been involved in developing web-based courses. In addition to supervising a dozen Master-students she has supervised seven students to a PhD and has ongoing supervision of six PhD-students as main- och co-supervisor. She has organized several courses and symposiae on stroke, sex&gender and pharmacological treatment of nervous system diseases.

COLLABORATION AND APPOINTMENTS 

Mia von Euler is Dean at the Faculty of Medicine and Health at Örebro University. She is the chair of the national quality register Riksstroke (the Swedish Stroke Register), a member of the steering committe of EVAS (EndoVascular treatment of Acute Stroke), member of the Swedish stroke working group and represents Sweden in Stroke Action Plan for Europe. She is also a member of the Swedish Research council’s committee for clinical intervention research and in the steering committees of ALF, GMS, and Biobank Sweden as well as the Swedish Society of Medical Research and Agenda för Hälsa och Välstånd.
