About Naveed Asghar

Naveed Asghar is a senior lecturer in biomedicine with a focus on virology at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University.

Research
Molecular virology is the main research field for Naveed. His research mainly focuses on the Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, West Nile virus, Zika virus and Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). He studies cellular immune responses after viral infections to understand underlying virus-host interactions and virulence determinants of viruses. He has developed infectious clone models for different flaviviruses through the reverse genetics approach to perform these studies.

One of his projects aims to develop vaccines against hepatitis infections by utilizing the flavivirus replicons established by Naveed. His research also accounts for molecular epidemiology and distribution of TBE in Scandinavia.

Naveed Asghar is also a key researcher in a project with Region Örebro County for epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Örebro County based on genetic, serological and clinical data from COVID-19 patients.
