About Yurii Orzikh


Yurii Orzikh is a researcher at Örebro University and associate professor in law at the National University Odesa Law Academy (NUOLA). He has a broad research interest ranging from public to private law issues and their intersection with EU law, with a particular focus on Tax Law, Family Law, Inheritance Law, Private International Law, AI, LegalTech and Digitalisation in Law, Notarial Law, Anti-Money Laundering regulations, and the Rule of Law in times of emergency and armed conflict.

Yurii Orzikh holds a LL.M (2005) and a LL.D (2009) in private law from National University Odesa Law Academy (NUOLA). His PhD in Law was in the specialisations of civil law, civil procedure, private international law, and family law. He also has extensive experience as a practising lawyer (civil-law notary) in the field of family law, succession law, cross-border succession, compliance with anti-money laundering regulations, income taxation of individuals, contract law with the particular focus on mortgage contracts and sale-purchase contracts of immovables.

At Örebro University he teaches courses in Tax Law, VAT, private law, private international law, Legal Tech, AI and Automation and works in the FIRE project (funded by KK-Stiftelsen), contribute to the Mis(s)ing Information project (funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), and lead the Swedish Institute-funded UAConnect project on capacity-building for Ukraine’s judges, prosecutors, advocates and notaries.

Alongside academia, he represents Ukraine in the International Union of Notaries (UINL) and in the International Cooperation Commission of the Notarial Chamber of Ukraine. Since 2025 Yurii Orzikh is a member of the European Law Institute (ELI).

Research profile

My current research interests focus on the legal issues concerning the taxation and succession of digital assets, as well as the division of marital property represented by digital assets. In addition, I am engaged in comparative studies of notarial systems, examining their respective advantages and drawbacks for different legal orders.
