New PhD Student: Liv Sundkvist Joins the SYNERGI24-TMAO Project

We are pleased to welcome Liv Sundkvist as a new PhD student at Örebro University. Since March 2026, Liv has been part of the Immunoprofiling of Inflammation (iPi) research group at the Cardiovascular Research Centre (CVRC), School of Medical Sciences.

Liv holds a BSc in Biomedicine from Umeå University and an MSc in Experimental Medicine from Örebro University. Her doctoral research focuses on the interplay between the metabolite trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and periodontitis, and how this axis contributes to cardiovascular inflammation.

In her project, Liv will investigate the role of the key oral pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis in combination with TMAO using both cellular infection models and in vivo mouse studies. The aim is to map shared mechanistic links between periodontal disease and cardiovascular outcomes, contributing to a deeper understanding of host–microbiome interactions in chronic inflammatory diseases.

We are excited to have Liv join the team and look forward to following her research journey.
