About Liv Sundkvist
Liv Sundkvist is a PhD student at Örebro University, where she has been conducting research since March 2026 as a part of the Immunoprofiling of Inflammation (iPi) research group at the Cardiovascular Research Centre (CVRC) within the School of Medical Sciences. She obtained her BSc degree in Biomedicine from Umeå University and her MSc degree in Experimental Medicine from Örebro University.
Liv's research focuses on the relationship between the dietary metabolite Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and periodontitis, and how this interaction may contribute to cardiovascular inflammation.
To investigate this, she will conduct clinical and epidemiological analyses and use the major oral pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis as periodontal challenge in cellular infection models and in vivo mouse studies. Combined with TMAO exposure, these approaches aim to map periodontal and cardiovascular outcomes and identify shared mechanistic links.
