About this project
Disturbed dopaminergic, noradrenergic and serotoninergic systems are implicated as causes of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Our working hypothesis in this project is that one reason behind this disturbed neurotransmission can be a change in the transport of the precursor amino acids, tyrosine and tryptophan, which secondarily could lead to disturbances in the dopaminergic.-noradrenergic and serotoninergic neurotransmitter system. We to perform a systematic functional characterization of tyrosine, tryptophan and alanine transport in fibroblasts from healthy controls, with respect to the system-, L and A and to their isoforms (LAT1, LAT2, LAT3, LAT4) (ATA1, ATA2).
