Research subject

While psychological stress is widely recognized as an important determinant of health in general, the evidence for its role in cancer development is unclear. Based on data from the Swedish Health Care registers and a cohort of Swedish men assessed for military conscription, this project explores the potential impact of stressful life-events, such as the loss of a close relative, as well as the individual’s stress resilience on subsequent cancer risk and progression. The project is also exploring determinants of stress resilience, and their role in cancer development.
