Predictors of prosthetic embodiment in people with prosthetic arms

Prosthetic embodiment is about that a person who uses a prosthesis experiences the prosthesis as part of their own body. Embodiment is associated with positive outcomes of rehabilitation, for example regular prosthesis use and satisfaction with the prosthesis. However, few studies have studied embodiment in more depth in people who use prosthetic arms.

The study is a quantitative observational study, where two aspects of prosthetic embodiment, ownership and agency, are measured in different ways (self-estimation and tests respectively) in people who use prosthetic arms. Multiple regression analysis will be used to investigate which factors are associated with embodiment, for example age, sex, type of prosthesis, time (years, months) one had the prosthesis, daily use time and satisfaction with various aspects of the prosthesis. In this way we can gain an understanding of what potentially contributes to the emergence of embodiment. The aim is to investigate embodiment in relation to the use of upper extremity prosthesis in people with amputation or congenital amputation.
