Course description

The course discusses research design, methods for data collection and analysis, as well as opportunities and limitations in relation to different methodological points of departure. Qualitative methods are discussed and analysed from power- and intersectional perspectives. The course consists of two parts: one joint introductory part (2.5 credits) and one specialisation part (5 credits), with in-depth studies of ethnography, interviews, or text and discourse analysis. The doctoral student chooses one of these orientations or several of these orientations. If you wish to attend more than one of the specialisations and gain credits for this, please choose specialisations when you register for the course.

Admission requirements

To gain access to the course and complete the examinations included in the course, the applicant must be admitted to a doctoral programme at Örebro University.

The applicant must have received passing grade in course(s) about qualitative methods, including 7.5 credits, on bachelor and/or master level, or in other ways gained corresponding knowledge.

Practical information: The course have a specialisation part with in-depth studies (5 credits). The PhD-student selects one or more of these specialisations.
