Sustainable development in laboratory operations

Sustainable development means that we meet today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This means that we must live in a way today that means that future generations can have the same opportunities as us. Sustainable development is based on three dimensions: social, environmental and economic. The starting point for work on sustainable development is the global goals for sustainable development, Agenda 2030, and the Higher Education Act.
The laboratory operations' goal for 2023-2025 in the strategy and action plan for sustainable development at Örebro University is that: the use of hazardous chemicals should be reduced so that laboratory operations in education and research are as safe and resource-efficient as possible, with the least possible environmental impact. To achieve the goal, a number of activities have been formulated. It is the coordination group at the university that works to achieve the goal in the action plan. According to the Higher Education Act, all employees at Örebro University have a responsibility to work with sustainable development and to integrate sustainable development into their operations. All managers with operational responsibility must ensure that activities for sustainable development are included in the annual operational planning based on the described target areas and activities in this strategy and action plan, and that these are followed up in regular operational monitoring.
