Alve: Things You Should Know Before Studying at Örebro University 🇸🇪

.

Örebro University is also known as “Örebro Universitet.” When you first arrive, don’t get confused by the spelling—“university” in Swedish is written as “universitet.” I remember being a bit confused myself when I first came here!

Hej, I’m Alve, a 25-year-old student from Bangladesh, and I’ve been studying here for almost a year now. Örebro is the fifth-largest city in Sweden, located right in the heart of the country. It’s a beautiful and peaceful city that offers a great balance between nature and urban life.

I previously lived in the capital of my country, Dhaka, so at first, I was unsure about not living in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. I’ve always considered myself more of a “city person.” However, Örebro completely changed my perspective.

The city has almost everything you would expect from larger cities in Sweden—from shopping centers to well-known brand outlets. It also has a lively and enjoyable nightlife. Örebro has its own unique architectural charm, especially with historical landmarks like Örebro Castle.

In addition, the city offers beautiful natural spots such as Naturens Hus and nearby lakes, which are perfect for relaxing and spending time outdoors. Public transportation is reliable, and even a simple bus ride around the city feels smooth and convenient.

With summer approaching, Örebro becomes even more vibrant. One of the highlights is Gustavsvik Lost City, a popular water park that’s perfect for enjoying the warm weather.

When it comes to student life, accommodation is well organized for international and exchange students. One of the main housing areas is “The Pine,” which is guaranteed for many international students. I personally live there, and I’ve been enjoying my stay very much—it’s comfortable, convenient, and a great place to meet other students.

Another big advantage of living in Örebro is how easy it is to travel. The city is well connected to major Swedish cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg. If you enjoy traveling, you can also visit nearby Nordic capitals such as Oslo and Copenhagen with relatively short trips.

Örebro University also provides clear and helpful guidance on how to reach the city from Stockholm or Gothenburg, which makes the arrival process much easier for new students.

I’m really looking forward to the summer break to explore more of Örebro, and I’m excited to see many of you joining here next semester.

Until then—hej då… or simply, goodbye!
