Tuition fees

To confirm your admission, the tuition fee must be paid in full. Completing the payment will also enable students who need a residence permit to begin the residence permit application process.

It is very important that you read our document Students required to pay fees – Guidelines before paying the tuition fee.

By paying the tuition fee, you confirm that you have read and understood both the information on this page and the content of the Students Required to Pay Fees – Guidelines.

If the tuition fee is not paid by the due date, your admission will be cancelled, and you will no longer be admitted to the programme.

A student enrolled in a study programme who does not pay the tuition fee for the upcoming semester, despite receiving a reminder, will be immediately suspended from the programme until the fee has been paid in full.

If you do not intend to begin the programme to which you have been admitted, please make sure to decline the offer.

The invoice will be available in Ladok for Students a few days after the final notification of selection results has been published on “My Pages” at universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.

  • Admitted students will receive an email from no-reply@ladok.se once the invoice has been made available in Ladok for Students.
  • The payment deadline is stated on the invoice.

If you require a residence permit for studies, it is important that you pay the tuition fee as soon as possible and then immediately submit your residence permit application. This will increase the likelihood of receiving a decision in time for the start of your programme.

Log in to Ladok for students by selecting the option to log in through your institution if you are already an active student in Sweden.
If you are a new student, choose the third option: Antagning.se / Universityadmissions.se. You will use the same username and password as for universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.

  • Once logged in to Ladok for Students, you can find your invoice by selecting “Payment details” for the current instalment.
  • To ensure that we can match your payment with your admission, it is important that you include the reference number and your full name as the message to the receiver when paying the tuition fee.

The full amount stated on the invoice must be paid no later than the due date. Payment by instalments is not possible.

  • It is only possible to pay by Visa or MasterCard, or by bank transfer. We strongly recommend paying online by Visa or MasterCard, as bank transfers often take a long time to process. Please note that cash payments are not accepted.
  • Please be aware that, in the event of a reimbursement, delays and complications often occur if the payment was made via a money transfer service (such as Wise) or via a bank transfer. Reimbursements in these cases generally take longer to complete.
  • Even if you pay in another currency, the payment will be received in Swedish kronor (SEK).
Bank and transfer fees are the responsibility of the payer. As exchange rates vary from day to day, the daily exchange rate at the time of payment applies. Please ensure that the amount transferred fully covers the tuition fee in SEK. We cannot transfer any currency gain to the next semester, and refunds of currency gains are not made.

If you pay the tuition fee on the due date, please send an email to our Admissions Office.

The Swedish Migration Agency will automatically be informed of your tuition fee payment through Ladok.

Please note that conditional admission will not be updated on the Notification of Selection Results after payment. The updated tuition fee status will only appear in Ladok for Students.

By paying the tuition fee, you certify that you have read and understood the document Students required to pay fees – Guidelines.

It normally takes several working days before Örebro University receives the payment. If the payment is made from abroad, the processing time is usually longer.

  • Once the full tuition fee for the programme you have been admitted to has been received by Örebro University, your tuition fee status in Ladok for Students will be updated. You will receive an email from no-reply@ladok.se when this update has been completed.
  • When your tuition fee status has been updated, a confirmation of payment will be available in Ladok for students. To access the confirmation, select “Tuition fees” in the menu and then choose the paid instalment.

Please note that your status as a conditionally admitted student will not be updated on the Notification of Selection Results after the payment. The tuition fee status is updated only in Ladok for Students.

Örebro University Scholarship

  • If you are awarded and accept a scholarship through the Örebro University Scholarship Programme, your tuition fee status in Ladok for Students will be updated to “Scholarship”.
  • You will receive an email from no-reply@ladok.se once your status in Ladok for Students has been updated.

Swedish Institute (SI) scholarship

  • If you are awarded and accept a Swedish Institute (SI) scholarship, please contact our Admissions Office.
  • Once Örebro University has confirmed your scholarship with SI, your tuition fee status in Ladok for Students will be updated to “Scholarship”.
  • You will receive an email from no-reply@ladok.se when your status has been updated.

Log in to Ladok for Students by selecting the option to log in through your institution if you are already an active student in Sweden.
If you are a new student, select the third option: Antagning.se / Universityadmissions.se. You will use the same username and password that you use for universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.

If you are unable to begin your studies, you must decline your admission.

  • You decline your admission under “My Pages” and “Application” after logging in to universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.
  • If you are unable to decline your admission through “My Pages,” you must contact your study advisor. Contact information for our study advisors is available on our website.

If you decline your admission and have not started the programme, it is possible to apply for and be admitted to the programme again in a later admission round.

If you have paid the tuition fee and decline your admission, you may apply for a reimbursement of the tuition fee. Information about reimbursement procedures can be found under “Reimbursement.”

Students who pay tuition fees for their studies are covered by a special insurance offered by the Swedish government through Kammarkollegiet.

  • The insurance, called FAS+, is valid provided that the tuition fee has been fully paid.
  • When applying for a residence permit through the Swedish Migration Agency’s online application system, students are required to provide proof of insurance.
  • The Notification of Selection Results serves as acceptable documentation of the FAS+ insurance coverage provided through Örebro University.

The full terms and conditions for FAS+ can be found on Kammarkollegiet's website.

The Notification of Selection Results is available under “My Pages” at universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.

  • This notification is the official document and must be used, for example, when applying for a residence permit.
  • Please note that the status of being conditionally admitted will not be updated on the notification after the tuition fee has been paid. The tuition fee status is updated only in Ladok for Students.

Please note that, according to the Swedish Migration Agency, your tuition fee must be paid before a residence permit for studies can be granted.

  • To increase the likelihood of receiving a decision in time for the start of your studies, it is essential that you pay the tuition fee as soon as possible and then immediately submit your residence permit application.
  • In some cases, the processing of documents may take longer than expected. To avoid delays, make sure that you include all required documents requested by the Migration Agency when submitting your application.
  • If you receive your Notification of Selection Results in July/August or December and you need to apply for a residence permit for studies, it may be difficult for the Migration Agency to issue a decision before the start of the programme.

The Swedish Migration Agency also automatically receives information from Ladok regarding your student status, including if you:

  • have paid the tuition fee in full
  • have been awarded a scholarship that covers the tuition fee—either from Örebro University or the Swedish Institute (SI)
  • do not register/start the education in time
  • are granted a leave of absence
  • discontinue your studies
  • receive a reimbursement of the tuition fee
  • are suspended due to unpaid tuition fees

Please note that if you are not an active student, your residence permit for studies may be affected.

Örebro University cannot influence or expedite the residence permit process, nor can the University provide assistance with the application.

For more information about residence permits, please visit the Swedish Migration Agency.

Students who have been admitted to a programme at Örebro University must register upon arrival. Information regarding registration will be provided by the school a few weeks before the start of the programme.

  • Please note that the tuition fee must be paid in order to complete the registration.
  • Being registered means that your student status at Örebro University is activated in our study systems. This enables you to participate in academic activities and allows the University to record your examination results, laboratory work, and all other forms of study performance.
  • If you have registered for the programme but wish to discontinue your studies early, you must do so within three weeks from the start of the programme in order to be eligible to apply for and be admitted to the programme again in a future admission round.

If you do not register in time, your admission will be cancelled, and you will no longer be considered admitted.

  • Please note that the Swedish Migration Agency is automatically informed if a student does not register in time and is therefore no longer admitted.

If your admission is cancelled due to failure to register in time, you may apply for a reimbursement of the tuition fee.
Information regarding reimbursement can be found under “Reimbursement.”

The basic principle is that an admitted student is expected to begin their studies in the semester stated in the admission decision.

In exceptional cases, an admitted student may apply for deferment if special grounds exist. It is important that the student can provide documentation supporting the grounds cited.

  • To be eligible to apply for a deferment of studies, the tuition fee must already be paid. If you are unable to pay the tuition fee, you must decline your offer of admission and apply again in the next admission round.
  • Please note that a rejection of a residence permit application is not considered a special reason for granting deferment. Likewise, the fact that the Swedish Migration Agency has not yet made a decision on your application is not considered a special reason.

More information about the special grounds required for deferment can be found in the document Students required to pay fees - Guidelines.pdf

If you wish to apply for deferment, please contact our Admissions Office.

For students admitted to a study programme, the tuition fee is paid in instalments, with one invoice issued for each semester of the programme.

  • Students enrolled in a study programme will receive an email from no-reply@ladok.se once the invoice for the upcoming semester is available in Ladok for Students.
  • The tuition fee for each semester must be paid in advance. The full amount stated on the invoice must be paid at once; partial payments or further instalments are not accepted.
  • A student who does not pay the tuition fee for the upcoming semester - despite having received a reminder - will be immediately suspended from the programme until the tuition fee has been paid in full.

The invoice for an upcoming spring semester becomes available in Ladok for Students in late November or early December. Last date of payment: 1 January.

The invoice for an upcoming autumn semester becomes available in Ladok for Students in late April. Last date of payment: 1 August.

If you require the invoice for an upcoming semester earlier than the dates stated above, please contact our Admissions Office.

If you have been assessed as required to pay tuition fees, but you do not agree with this assessment, please read the information below.

The tuition fee status of a student is determined during the application process, based on the documents submitted at the time of application. On universityadmisisons.se or antagning.se you can read more about who is required to pay tuition fees and the exceptions that apply.

To allow us to reassess whether you may be exempt from paying tuition fees, you must upload one of the following documents, depending on your situation:

  • A residence permit decision from the Swedish Migration Agency showing that you hold, or have held, a residence permit for reasons other than studies.
  • If your previous residence permit (granted for reasons other than studies) has expired, and you have already applied for an extension, you may also be exempt.
In this case, you must upload:
    - a copy of your previous residence permit decision, and
    - a receipt from the Swedish Migration Agency confirming that you have applied for an extension of that permit.
  • The University will review the documentation and make a decision regarding any change to your tuition fee status. If you are unable to provide sufficient evidence, your status as a fee-paying student will remain unchanged.

You must upload all documents under “My Pages”  - “Application” after logging in to universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.
After uploading the documents, you must contact our Admissions Office to inform us that the documentation is available for review.

Reimbursement of tuition fees is regulated in Students required to pay fees - Guidelines.pdf

In the event that a reimbursement is approved, the refund can only be made to the same account from which the original payment was made. The University’s bank will process the reimbursement as a reversed payment.

An administrative fee is charged once the reimbursement has been approved. The administrative fee is SEK 5,000.

The timeframe within which an application for reimbursement must be received by the University is specified in the guidelines.

Reimbursement when admission is cancelled:

  • If you do not register in time (i.e., you do not start the education you were admitted to), your admission will be cancelled, and you will no longer be considered admitted.
  • In such cases, it is possible to request a reimbursement of the tuition fee. Please note that an application for reimbursement must be submitted within three weeks from the official start date of the education.
  • You can find the start date under More information for the education on “My Pages” at universityadmissions.se or antagning.se.

Reimbursement after discontinuing studies:

  • If you have registered and begun your studies and subsequently choose to discontinue the education, a reimbursement may be possible. More information is available in the guidelines.
  • Please note that an application for reimbursement must be submitted within three weeks from the date on which the education was discontinued.

Please be aware that if the tuition fee was paid via bank transfer, reimbursements can take a long time to process, and complications frequently arise.

To request a reimbursement, please contact our Admissions Office.
