Örebro University in Times Higher Education rankings

For several consecutive years, Örebro University has come out strong in a number of Times Higher Education (THE) world rankings.

Times Higher Education is one of the world's most valued university rankings. Universities are evaluated according to five criteria: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.

The most recent ranking of the world’s best universities was published in October 2025. Örebro University places itself in the 601-800 band. The primary reason for this very respectable performance is that research articles written by the university’s researchers to a great extent has been cited by other scholars, thus contributing to notable international recognition.

Örebro University was first included on the list in 2015, and even then, citations were the area in which the university ranked the highest.

To qualify for the ranking, the university’s researchers must have published at least 1,000 scientific articles in the past five years.

In the Times Higher Education list of the top universities in Europe, Örebro University came in at number 253, alongside universities with a considerably longer history.

The Times Higher Education rankings are of great importance when it comes to attracting international students, researchers and teachers. They provide increased national and international recognition and are an important factor in forming strategic partnerships with universities abroad.
