About Anneli Andersson

Anneli Andersson is a researcher in criminology at Örebro University, School of Behavioural, Social and Legal Sciences (BSR). She earned her PhD in Medical Sciences from Örebro University in 2021 with the dissertation “How is ADHD associated with comorbidities and health-related outcomes? The role of familial factors and ADHD during pregnancy.” Anneli received her Master’s degree in Psychology from Kristianstad University in 2016 and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology from Örebro University in 2015.

Research
Anneli’s research is interdisciplinary and spans the fields of criminology, public health, and psychiatric epidemiology. Her work is largely based on register-based studies and advanced statistical methods to explore how individual, familial, and contextual factors interact to influence mental health, substance use, and criminal behavior. A central theme in her current research concerns how different types of neighborhood structures and residential environments are associated with crime and psychiatric disorders, and how such knowledge can inform the development of more targeted local crime-prevention strategies.

Teaching and Supervision
Anneli teaches criminology at the undergraduate level and has experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods. She regularly supervises theses at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Since 2022, she has served as co-supervisor for two doctoral students: Anna-Karin Ångström, who studies ADHD and criminality, and Nilo Tayebi, who examines the relationship between depression and criminality.
