About Ayako Hiyoshi

Ayako Hiyoshi is an associate professor (docent in Swedish) and a social epidemiologist. She obtained PhD in epidemiology in 2013 from University College London, United Kingdom. Since then, she has been working at the Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Örebro University Hospital and Örebro University. Her research interest includes life-course influences of social, psychological and living-environmental factors on poor health later in life. Earlier she was supported by the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte, 2014-2128). She currently leads a project focusing on life events in family and subsequent work and health in family members (Forte 2019-01236) using large register-linkage data material (General Population Cohort 1990-2019). 

She collaborates with researchers within Örebro as well as from Stockholm University, University College London (UK) and Japan. Collaborative projects include research into bereavement (PI Prof Mikael Rostila, Stockholm University, VR), disability and cancer (Dr Alessandra Grotta, Stockholm University, Forte), working life after retirement age (PI Dr Loretta Platts, Stockholm University, Riksbanken), and risk factors of dementia and caregiving (PIs Prof Hiroyasu Iso & Prof Eric Brunner, Osaka University & UCL).

She is a researcher at Stockholm University, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at University College London, and Visiting Associate Professor at Osaka University.
