About Gabriella Lillsunde-Larsson

Registered biomedical laboratory scientist, associate professor at the School of Health Sciences.

PhD from Örebro university 2015; "Characterization of HPV-induced vaginal and vulvar carcinoma". Research area is HPV-induced cancers.

Gabriella holds a combined position at the School of Health Sciences which means that she works 30% at the department of Laboratory medicine at Örebro University hospital. There she works mostly as coordinator of education.

Research

Gabriellas research is mainly dedicated to HPV-induced cancers, such as genital cancer but also towards other cancer forms such as prostate cancer. Research focus is biological and prognostic factors affecting cancer development, cancer progression and treatment. Gabriella also collaborates with other scientists, for example in projects on cannabinoid cell signaling.

Biomedical laboratory science is the common denominator, connecting laboratory research with clinical endpoints.

Teaching

Gabriella is the program director for the Master’s Programme in Methods in Medical Diagnostics and teaches molecular biology, tumor pathology, leadership and professional issues. She supervises PhD students and degree projects in biomedical laboratory science and in medicine.

Assignments

Gabriella is the vice president of the Swedish Institute of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IBL), the national organization for biomedical laboratory scientists. Here she also coordinate the international committee consisting of members of IBL and Vårdförbundet.

She is since 2020 a board member in the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS). The International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) is an independent international non-governmental association representing more than 200,000 medical laboratory scientists and technologists worldwide. In the board, she is the committee chair of the Development committee and participates in the scientific committee.

Gabriella has been project leader for national and Nordic professional congresses and participated in the scientific committee for the international congress IFBLS2021 in Copenhagen.
