Johan Öhman

About Johan Öhman

Johan Öhman, PhD, is Professor of Education at Örebro University’s School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. He is one of the founders of the research group SMED (Studies of Meaning-making in Educational Discourses) and the research school GRESD (Graduate School for Education and Sustainable Development), is head of the research school UVD (Educational Sciences with Emphasis on Didactics), member of the international advisory board of Environmental Education Research and convener of the network Environmental and Sustainability Education Research at the ECER conference. For the past 20 years he has been involved in teacher training and student supervision. He is the author and co-author of several textbooks and articles on the subjects of outdoor, environmental and sustainability education. His area of research is ethical and democratic issues within the sphere of sustainability, environmental and outdoor education, and he is the author of several research papers, book chapters and textbooks, both in Swedish and in English, on these themes. In his research he uses a methodology based on sociocultural learning theory, John Dewey’s pragmatic philosophy and the later works of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
