About John

John Brauer is a qualified social worker who successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in social work, June 2022. He currently works as a lecturer in social work


The thesis concerned vocational habilitation and rehabilitation, focusing on local governments’ efforts to increase employment rates among social assistance claimants. He currently looks into issues concerning active labour market policy for people with intellectual disabilities as well as with people who have served time in prison.


John teaches at the social worker-program at Örebro University. Currently, the bulk of his teaching is within the course "Professional Role and Discretion Informed by a Scientific Approach".

Collaboration and assignments

John is a member of the internal research groups PrOSA, Social work and care in a life-course, Disability, School and working life, and OPaL. He is also involved in an emerging international network concerning social work and activation.
