In the parallel research projects Music, Class and Academic Achievement and Music Classes in Sweden – rise and success, so-called music classes in primary school are studied. The music classes' establishment, role and function are highlighted in several substudies, which together aim to clarify why music classes exist, and in what different ways they operate in the educational landscape. This research is conducted with support from Johan & Jakob Söderberg’s Foundation, Magnus Bergvall’s Foundation and Åke Wiberg’s Foundation.
The didactically oriented research examines the implications of and meaning making in aesthetic teaching and learning practices. The research interest lies in the forming of knowledge on the type of learning that takes place in aesthetic knowledge practices as well as how approaches to aesthetic learning processes can be included in a teacher's didactic work.
