About Maria Lodefalk

Maria Lodefalk is a docent in medicine and a pediatrician with specialization in pediatric endocrinology. She defended her PhD thesis at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm with the title: “Adolescent type 1 diabetes – Eating and gastrointestinal function”. Her research in later years has focused on pubertal and growth disorders in children and adolescents, and on molecular biological changes in the placenta in relation to pregnancy complications, prenatal exposure and fetal growth. Maria Lodefalk is responsible for a large placenta sample collection at Örebro University Hospital.

Presently, Maria Lodefalk is supervising two PhD students and co-supervising two other PhD students. She shares her working hours between being a senior consultant at the Department of Pediatrics, Örebro University Hospital, and being a Research Supervisor at the University Health Care Research Center in Region Örebro County. Lodefalk is also involved in teaching at the Schools of Medical and Health Sciences at the university, in national working groups and as an expert at the foundation Nyckelfonden.
