About Rudolf Aro

I am a postdoctoral researcher in analytical chemistry at Örebro University, specialising in fluorine mass balance analysis and advanced methods for detecting and characterising PFAS and other organofluorine compounds in environmental samples. My research focuses on the development and application of LC–MS/MS workflows, combustion ion chromatography, and complementary analytical strategies for understanding organofluorine behaviour in complex matrices.

I completed my PhD in Chemistry at Örebro University in 2021, my doctoral work contributed to improving the analytical toolbox for fluorinated contaminants and advancing quantitative approaches for emerging pollutants. I hold dual MSc degrees in Analytical Chemistry from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the University of Tartu, where I also earned my BSc in Chemistry.

Beyond my academic research, I have several years of experience in the private sector in analytical development, which has strengthened my methodological rigour, project management skills, and understanding of quality-driven laboratory environments. This background supports my current work in developing robust analytical methods and mentoring students.

Beyond my research I help to manage the analytical laboratory and teach both theoretical and practical components of analytical chemistry. I supervise BSc and MSc students and contribute to building a collaborative research environment grounded in high-quality analytical science.
