Paul Myles

Paul Myles is Professor at Monash University and Director of the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.

He is a well-renowned scholar with a large record of publications. He holds a Practitioner Fellowship at the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, he is a member of the Research Committee of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Science. His research on patient quality of recovery and avoidance of postoperative complications has been awarded research grants of substantial sums and includes large multicentre trials in anaesthesia. Professor Myles serves as Editor of the British Journal of Anaesthesia, as well as Editorial Consultant and editorial board member of other well-respected international journals.

Professor Myles leads an international research group working on consensus-based guidelines for clinical outcomes used in perioperative research. Since the early 2000s, there have been continuous research contacts and collaborations between Örebro University and Professor Myles. These have included research collaboration on postoperative recovery, as well as on 'Standardized Endpoints for Perioperative Medicine' (StEP). Professor Myles holds impressive knowledge in psychometric research, which Örebro University has benefited greatly from, while Örebro University has contributed with expertise on the nursing-researcher perspective. This collaboration is of great importance to staff such as researchers in perioperative care/nursing, surgeons, anaesthesiologists and registered nurse anaesthetists at Örebro University and Örebro University Hospital.
