Grahame Simpson

Grahame Simpson is Professor of Rehabilitation Research at the School of Health Sciences, University of Sydney. He also holds leading roles within brain injury and rehabilitation research at the John Walsh Centre for Rehabilitation Research and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, Sydney.

A social worker and registered psychologist with more than 35 years’ experience as a clinician and researcher, Grahame Simpson leads a multidisciplinary research programme with a strong psychosocial focus in the areas of positive mental health, family resilience, vocational rehabilitation, and assistive technology.

He is the highest published social worker in the field of traumatic brain injury internationally and is current co-editor of the journal Brain Impairment. His track-record of securing research funding nationally and internationally is impressive, and he is a member of several international associations and networks within the brain injury field.

Grahame Simpson’s collaboration with Örebro University in the areas of psychosocial interventions, health and acquired brain injury goes back over two decades, involving academic visits, joint publications, and shared conference presentations. In addition to linking Örebro staff into a broader international social work collaboration investigating parenting after an acquired brain injury, Grahame Simpson is also part of a broader multidisciplinary collaboration with Örebro University on innovative research investigating resilience after stroke and developing a new psychosocial intervention that meets the specific challenges faced by women after brain injury.

We look forward to expanding these already growing relationships, making a significant difference to people living with an acquired brain injury, and better equipping both social work research and practice within the field.
