Elham Kazemi

Elham Kazemi is a prominent researcher in mathematics education. She is the Geda and Phil Condit Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Washington.
The focus of Elham Kazemi’s research is how elementary school teachers elicit and build children’s mathematical reasoning. Her research also includes how school leaders create school environments to support teacher learning.

Elham Kazemi has authored numerous books and articles, received several academic awards, and supervised a large number of doctoral students. Her latest book, Learning together: Organizing Schools for Teacher and Student Learning, was published in September.

Elham Kazemi has generously shared her time and expertise with us at Örebro University. In 2023, she was part of a PhD course on theory in collaborative research involving PhD students from all of Sweden. She was also a keynote speaker at both MADIF-14 and Matematikbiennalen – two mathematics education conferences that Örebro University hosted in 2024.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Elham Kazemi about the development of teacher education at Örebro University, a collaboration that strengthens the university’s efforts towards further internationalisation.
