Older adults benefit from fruits, vegetables and physical activity

EURODIET has released new publications showing that:

  • high intakes of fruits and vegetables are related to the occurrence of the metabolic syndrome in older adults. The benefits of having a high fruit and vegetable intake were independent of whether individuals were physically active or not.
  • avoiding time spent being sedentary for light intensity physical activities is beneficial for muscle health in older adults. Even if higher intensity physical activity imposes a greater effect, lighter intensity physical activity is still better than no activity at all.
