Occurrence of microplastics in Sweden's great lakes

Our previous measurements have shown occurrence of microplastics in Swedish fresh water lakes, and there is a need to map the occurrence of microplastics and determine proper methodologies for monitoring. The project involves analysis of surface water and sediment and is a joint effort together with the County administrative boards to get an overview of the current situation of microplastics in Mälaren, Hjälmaren, Vänern, and Vättern. Factors that might influence the measurements are also studied within the project in an attempt to provide insight on how environmental monitoring programs should be conducted.
