Sommelier – Culinary Arts and Meal Science, 180 higher education credits

Sommelier – Culinary Arts and Meal Science is an industry-oriented study programme for everyone with a passion for beverages, meals and service.

In this programme the guest’s experience of beverages, hospitality and service is central. The focus is on the room, the encounter, the product, the atmosphere and the management system. The programme is basically theoretical but is combined with practical modules to enhance your professional skills, creativity and capacity for innovation. The understanding of the total experience of the meal requires in-depth knowledge of wine and beverages, testing methods, product knowledge, how to combine food and drink, dining room crafts including management and service, sensory analyses, and business economics. The study programme includes Scandinavia’s most comprehensive beverage education and most of the modules in the courses are based on the international material from Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Several distinguished food personalities and sommeliers from Sweden and abroad make regular guest appearances on the programme. The study programme also includes international internships in collaboration with several of the world’s leading industry representatives. It is also possible to continue to study business economics at a higher level and go on to doctoral studies.

If you want to work in the modern and international restaurant sector and have a skilled and managerial position in the restaurant business, this is the programme for you. Possible occupations are for example sommelier, restaurant manager, restaurateur, food & beverage manager, product developer in the food industry, event coordinator, or wine and beverage agent.
