Seminar in Computer Science: From harsh environments to forestry: pushing field robotics to new boundaries
21 August 2026 14:00 – 15:00 Hörsal L2, Långhuset
The Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at Örebro university arranges a seminar with Professor Philippe Giguère from Université Laval, Québec, Canada.
Speaker: Professor Philippe Giguère from Université Laval, Québec, Canada.
Title of seminar: "From harsh environments to forestry: pushing field robotics to new boundaries"
Abstract: Situated at the threshold of boreal forests and sub-arctic landscapes, the Northern Robotics Laboratory (Norlab) is uniquely positioned to advance the frontiers of field robotics in extreme conditions. This seminar offers an overview of our recent work in terrain perception, robot-terrain interaction modeling, and SLAM in unstructured, challenging environments, alongside novel datasets designed for robust off-road navigation. The second half of the presentation will explore the intersection of autonomous robotics and forestry, demonstrating how advanced perception systems can drive its automation.
Date and time: August 21, starting at 14:00.
Location: Hörsal L2, Långhuset, Örebro University
