Molecular Biology and Genetics, 7.5 Credits

The course provides a basic understanding of molecular biology and genetics, as well as methods used in these areas. The course highlights areas including, information storage in the cell, regulation of gene expression and the role gene regulation has for the development and adaptability of the organisms. Processes such as DNA replication, transcription, translation, protein synthesis, mutations, DNA repair and gene regulation are also presented. During the course, the relationship between molecular biology and classical genetics are highlighted. In addition, the basics of laboratory work are given.
