Ecology, 7.5 Credits

In ecology, we study how humans, organisms, populations, and ecosystems interact to create and maintain functioning ecosystems. The aim is to develop an understanding of how some of the major challenges of our time, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and the increasing global demand for food, can be addressed.
The course illustrates how ecologists investigate relationships among plant and animal species and examine how external factors, such as human activities, influence natural processes. One example is the ecological consequences of human use and management of biological natural resources.
The course also explores the interconnectedness of nature, encompassing living organisms such as plants, animals, populations, and ecological communities, as well as environmental factors including climate and the cycling and storage of nutrients and other substances. Topics related to conservation, habitat management, and ecosystem restoration are also discussed.
