About the grant

The Erasmus+ KA171 grant is not a full scholarship. It is a contribution to additional costs related to your mobility, which means you are expected to cover part of your expenses with your own funds.

What does the grant include?

The Erasmus+ KA171 grant consists of two parts:

  1. Travel Support
    Travel Support is a fixed amount based on the distance between the sending and receiving institutions, according to the European Commission's distance band calculator.
    • Brazil: 1 735 EUR
    • Kenya: 1 188 EUR
  2. Living Support
    A contribution to help cover your living expenses during your stay. The exact amount is specified in your grant agreement.
  3. Inclusion support

    Some students may be eligible for additional financial support (Inclusion Support) depending on their individual circumstances. The maximum top-up is 250 EUR per month, and students can only receive one top-up, even if they meet more than one eligibility criterion. You will be asked to provide the relevant information in the Grant Agreement Form, and additional documentation will be required.

Brazil

Here is an example of how the grant may be calculated for a student staying at Örebro University for 5 months:

  • Travel Support: 1 735 EUR
  • Living Support: 900 EUR × 5 months = 4 500 EUR

Total Erasmus+ grant:  6 235 EUR

  • First payment 90% of the total grant: 5 611,50 EUR

The accommodation cost for the entire stay is deducted from this payment. For example, if your total rent is 3 100 EUR, this amount will be deducted before the first payment is made.

  • 5 611,50 EUR − 3 100 EUR = 2 511,50 EUR

The remaining 10% (623,50 EUR) is paid after your mobility, once all requirements have been fulfilled.

Please note: This is an example only. Your exact grant amount depends on the duration of your mobility, and the accommodation cost depends on the housing option you choose.

Kenya

Here is an example of how the grant may be calculated for a student staying at Örebro University for 2 months:

  • Travel Support: 1 188 EUR
  • Living Support: 900 EUR × 2 months = 1 800 EUR

Total Erasmus+ grant: 2 988 EUR

  • First payment 90% of the total grant: 2 689,20 EUR

The accommodation cost for the entire stay is deducted from this payment. For example, if your total rent is 1 600 EUR, this amount will be deducted before the first payment is made.

  • 2 689,20 EUR − 1 600 EUR = 1 089,20 EUR

The remaining 10% (298,80 EUR) is paid after your mobility, once all requirements have been fulfilled.

Please note: This is an example only. Your exact grant amount depends on the duration of your mobility, and the accommodation cost depends on the accommodation arranged for your stay.

Important!

The grant is a financial contribution and does not cover all expenses. You are responsible for any additional costs not covered by the grant.

Please note that the average cost of living in Örebro per month is around 11 000 SEK (approx. 1 000 EUR) including accommodation.

Payment Schedule

The grant is paid to a Paygoo card, which can be used abroad. Please note that the rent for your entire stay will be deducted from your first grant payment.

Students

The grant is paid in two instalments:

  • After arrival: 90% of the total grant (Travel Support and Living Support), with the accommodation cost for the entire stay deducted from the payment.
  • After the mobility: The remaining 10%, once all obligations have been fulfilled.

Staff

  • After arrival: 100% of the grant is paid.

Pick up your Paygoo card

The Paygoo card must be picked up in person at Info Center (located in the building Långhuset on campus Almby). You will need to show valid identification when collecting your card. The university is closed on weekends, so the card can only be collected on weekdays.

After Your Mobility

To receive the final 10% of the grant, students must:

  • Submit all required documents
  • Complete the EU Survey

You will receive detailed instructions from the International Office before and during your mobility.
