Excellent Teaching Award

Jenny Bonnevier and Tommy Borglund.

The 2023 Excellent Teaching Award was awarded to Jenny Bonnevier and Tommy Borglund.

It is of crucial importance that knowledge is conveyed engagingly. Given this consideration, the Örebro Student Union presents the Excellent Teaching Awards to university teachers who have – according to the students’ nominations – invigorated teaching in the undergraduate, Master’s or doctoral programmes – “…with that extra pinch of dedication.”

Motivation for the award – Jenny Bonnevier

Senior lecturer at the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences

“Jenny’s teaching enables stimulating and fun learning. Her endless devotion to correlation, critical thinking, and legitimacy permeates her teaching, and Jenny inspires encouraging and challenging new thoughts, reasoning, and insights. Jenny is a lecturer who contributes to developing independence and reasoning in future teachers through innovative methods, meaningful subjects, and empiricism. Jenny’s lectures always encourage a welcoming and inviting classroom – a learning environment resting as much on her commitment to fairness and equality as her teaching method. Thus, Jenny contributes to an inclusive environment where each student is seen and heard. Jenny is not just a lecturer in comparative literature, subject didactics, and culture; she inspires all future teachers. What truly constitutes being a teacher? Quoting Shakespeare or applying rhetorical analysis? Perhaps, but above all, Jenny has exhibited that a teacher should be attentive, dedicated, and able to see all her students, who they are and recognise their capabilities. Jenny is a lecturer for tomorrow and, therefore, worthy of the Excellent Teaching Award.”

Motivation for the award – Tommy Borglund

Senior lecturer at Örebro University School of Business

“Tommy Borglund demonstrates an incredible devotion in his teaching and sustainability. As a member of the group initiating the Center for Sustainable Business at Örebro University School of Business, Tommy has created didactic teaching with theoretical and practical components.

By welcoming corporate leaders as guest lecturers, organising study visits to companies around Sweden, and providing courses in sustainability with English lecturing, Tommy marks a clear-cut path towards diversity, boosting the value of his teaching methods. Tommy is one of the teachers in the Master’s Programme in Sustainable Business who demonstrates a true passion for the subject and invites all students, regardless of background, to be enthusiastic about the learning development process. Tommy should receive this year’s award for his insight and devotion to teaching, his inviting nature ensuring every student in the learning process is heard, and his broad knowledge that creates added value in the critical subject of sustainability and sustainable development. Therefore, I believe Tommy should be awarded the Excellent Teaching Award.”

“I nominate Tommy Borglund for the Excellent Teaching Award. With Tommy’s devotion, approachability, and firm link with reality, he creates and develops an interest in the subject he teaches. Tommy’s strengths lie in his dedication to teaching, communicating, and helping students to increase interest in the subject. Tommy’s use of various teaching methods exemplifies his consideration of different learning abilities and plans his teaching accordingly. Many thanks, Tommy!”
