About Michaela Zeiner

Education

She studied at University of Vienna and University of Technology in Vienna (Austria). She completed her PhD at the Department of Analytical and Food Chemistry, University of Vienna, where she started her teaching and research experience. Afterwards (2007-2017), she worked as senior lecturer at BOKU Wien, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences. Since November 2017 she is senior lecturer at University of Örebro.

Research

Her research focus lies on qualitative and quantitative analysis of potentially toxic elements/metals (PTE or PTM) at trace and ultratrace level in a wide range of sample matrices, mainly biological specimens, such as soil, plants, water, fruits and herbs, food stuff. This covers methodological developments and applications of analytical methods for scientific and industrial problems. The analytical methods mainly applied are atomic emission spectroscopy (AES), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) as well as elemental mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The sample preparation techniques carried out include complete digestion (acidic wet or dry digestion, microwave (MW) assisted digestion) alongside various extraction techniques.

The research is performed also in course of international cooperations with Croatia (University of Zagreb, PMF) and Austria (FH Campus Wien; University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Boku Wien).

Teaching

She is involved in the Analytical Science Programme in Chemistry with a Focus on Forensics offered at University of Örebro. She is responsible for imparting fundamental chemistry knowledge to the students. In the first year they meet her in the course "general chemistry", in the second year, she guides them through the mystery of inorganic chemistry and later on she teaches analytical chemistry also with focus on forensics. Students interested in inorganic analysis have the opportunity to perform their bachelor thesis with her in their third year of education.

Assignments

Furthermore Dr. Michaela Zeiner acts as reviewer for several scientific journals.
