About Stefan Jansson

Stefan Jansson has since 1989 been a general practitioner, specialist in primary care in Region Örebro County and the clinical service takes place at Brickebacken's health care center in Örebro.

The research is mainly focused on type 2 diabetes where, among others, people who have suffered from type 2 diabetes from Laxå have been followed for over 40 years. Incidence and prevalence of diabetes, mortality and treatment and complications are examples of what is studied in this Laxå cohort. Other research areas are conducted in collaboration with researchers from several different universities in Sweden and are being about incidence and prevalence of diabetes in Sweden, complications in people with diabetes born abroad, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Sweden with a focus on intensive care and prevention of future risk of diabetes. Success factors and its importance for people with type 2 diabetes to achieve treatment goals.

Other research areas are to evaluate non-surgical obesity treatment through intervention with low energy diet (LED), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and gastric balloon. But also studies on how group treatment of overweight/obesity is affected by dietary habits, physical activity, health-related quality of life, eating behavior and metabolic health.

An additional research area is about hypersensitive bowel, ie Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), where intervention with CBT and/or diet is examined, but also how diagnosis of these patients are manage in primary care.

Stefan Jansson is chair of the National Working Group for Diabetes (NAG-D) within the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions. Stefan Jansson has also been an expert in the National Board of Health and Welfare's work on the preparation of the national diabetes guidelines 2010, 2015 and 2017. Medical expert in the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefit Agency (TLV) and its national review of the group of medicines and medical devices for people with diabetes. Medical expert at the Medical Products Agency's workshop for the development of national treatment recommendations regarding diabetes drugs 2009 and 2017. Stefan Jansson teaches medical students and supervises these within their in-depth work term 6 and 10, in addition Stefan is vice chairman of the Swedish Association for Diabetology (SFD).
