Recurrent and persistent pain and psychological distress are alarmingly common problems among adolescents, in Sweden as well as globally. They often co-occur and have been shown to be a predictor of remaining problems in adulthood. Early onset of adequate treatment has been shown important in order to decrease the risk of remaining problems with pain and psychological distress in adulthood.

The project includes a clinical study, ReActivate, where a physiotherapist-led treatment model for youth with persistent pain and psychological distress will be developed and tested. The model is based upon graded exposure for physical activity and/or exercise.

The aim of the project is to increase knowledge of persistent pain and psychological distress among youth and to participate in the work for developing evidence based and cost-effective methods of treatment for youths with these problems.
