Research subject

Scientific expertise is be crucial for discovering, diagnosing and solving environmental problems and this project study the constitution and development of international environmental expertise. Two of the most well-known international environmental expert organizations will be studied: the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Their different institutional design and expert strategies will be analyzed and compared. The project has both theoretical and empirical ambition; to in a theoretical informed way explore how environmental expertise is shaped, but also to make use of these findings in order deepen the understanding of what environmental expertise is and how it is acquired.
