GLOMISCO is a research group in social work that studies social work in a globalised world. The group is interested in how globalisation and global, international and transnational processes affect people’s living conditions, social problems, welfare and social cohesion, with a particular focus on migration and integration.
The research examines how global social change affects welfare, social cohesion and people’s living conditions, as well as the role of social work in understanding and responding to these changes. A central concern is also to understand what creates the conditions for more equal, inclusive and sustainable societies.
GLOMISCO is rooted in social work and studies social issues in relation to globalisation and global social processes. The group draws on a broad range of theoretical and methodological perspectives and develops its research in dialogue with other fields and areas of knowledge. Critical and structural perspectives are central to the research, as are questions of social justice, social cohesion and sustainable societal development.
An important aspect of GLOMISCO’s work is its international perspective. Through international collaborations in research and practice, the group creates opportunities for dialogue between academic knowledge, professional experience and societal perspectives.
GLOMISCO is part of the collaboration within the strategic research area Crisis and Transformation at Örebro University.
