Abstract
Animation is a decades old craft which focuses on communication through movement, similar to acting. However, different from acting, animation relies on synthetic movement where, traditionally, every movement is designed and made manually by the animator. This process requires internalization of movement down to the tiniest details, and a thorough understanding of the dynamics. This talk presents an overview of animation methods and principles used when creating movement from scratch, as well as techniques for analyzing characteristic movement features.
Bio
Jakob Welner is trained as a biomedical engineer with a focus on biomechanics and neuro-motor control. Before engaging in engineering Jakob spent 10 years working as an animator on various Hollywood movies and commercials around the world.
