Abstract

Intralogistic services have to respond quickly to changing market needs, unforeseeable trends and shorter product life cycles. These drivers pose increasing demands on intralogistic systems to be highly flexible, rock-solid reliable, self-optimising, quickly deployable and safe yet efficient in environments shared with humans.

The EU H2020 project ILIAD that we describe in this presentation had the overall goal to meet these demands and thus enable the transition to automation of intralogistic services. Scientifically and beyond a specific use-case, this corresponds to ambitious goals for complex cognitive systems in human environments.

Together with key stakeholders from the food distribution sector ILIAD developed robotic solutions to achieve (1) self-deploying fleets of heterogeneous robots in multiple-actor systems; (2) life-long self-optimisation; (3) flexible manipulation from a mobile platform; (4) efficient and safe operation in environments shared with humans; and (5) efficient fleet management with formal guarantees.

In this presentation we will outline the work in ILIAD and present selected results beyond the state of the art achieved in the project. In addition we will talk about the integration of the ILIAD system in a large European project in times of a pandemic and end with a summary and outlook of the project.
