Abstract
AI applications often require the combination of multiple approaches to combine their respective strengths or cover different aspects such as learning or decision-making. There are many examples of hybrid AI approaches that are well studied and even more have been created ad-hoc for certain applications. However, there is little work on the general theory of hybrid AI systems. In this talk, I will discuss research questions that emerge when we attempt to generalize how hybrid AI systems are built, how their models are managed, and what properties may carry over from individual components to the whole system. I also give a short overview of the AIDDL framework which was created to study and realize hybrid AI systems.
