According to the curriculum for preschools (Lpfö 18), dance as an aesthetic form of expression is important both as content and method which includes learning about, through and from dance.

This project aims to generate more knowledge of dance in preschool by

a) mapping and systematically compiling multi-year experience of using dance as an aesthetic form of expression for 1-3 years-old children in a preschool;

b) analyzing the material from a gender perspective and

c) developing a model for gender equal dance teaching in preschool that includes creative use of digital tools.

The project is based on close collaboration between researcher and preschool teachers. The teaching of dance performed in the preschool is experience-based and grounded in modern dance's movement improvisations as well as children's creativity, participation and joy of movement.
