Nexus during Örebro Day 2025

Nexus during Örebro Day 2025

Your exchange semester at Örebro University starts with arrival day(s) and continues with a one-of-a-kind 3 or 5 week long "Orientation Programme" (depending on autumn or spring semester). During the orientation programme (OP), we offer a variety of activities, all designed to make the adjustment to Örebro and Sweden as smooth as possible for our international students. There are some activities that are organised by the University, and therefore free of charge, and extra social activities organised by Nexus Örebro that require a participation fee. For more information continue reading!

Arrival

During the arrival day(s), you will collect the keys to your accommodation from our housing office, meet the International office for a mandatory ID-check and also get to meet/socialise with other international students and the Nexus "fadders" (aka buddies) - if you have signed up to participate in the orientation programme. More information about the orientation programme can be found further down the page.

  • The official arrival days for the autumn semester 2026 is August 17th, 18th and 19th (9:00 - 16:00 CEST), so please arrange your trip accordingly.
  • If you arrive on the weekend, outside office hours, or before the official arrival day(s), then you will need to arrange your own stay before getting access to the student accommodation.
  • If you are planning on coming to Örebro after the official arrival days, then you can pick up your keys for you student accommodation from the housing office during their regular opening hours

The official start of the autumn semester 2026 is August 31st.

  • If you plan to arrive after the start of the semester, please contact the international office. This is very important as late arrival might mean you are not allowed to start the courses you have been accepted for.

Orientation Programme

In Sweden, universities have a rich culture when it comes to introduction weeks, with the purpose of welcoming new students to the city and to campus. Örebro Student Union consists of multiple student sections, each connected to specific study subjects of the university, that students can become members in. Since of 2024, the student union now also have an international student section, called Nexus

The Orientation Programme (OP for short) is a collaboration between Örebro University and Nexus. Approximately 180 students join Nexus each semester, and around 60 fadders (buddies) are engaged to offer exchange students the best experience in Sweden. International Master's students are also welcome to join the OP together with Nexus, so it's a good mix of students with different backgrounds and nationalities.

Practical and academical activities

As a part of the orientation programme, all exchange students will learn about the academic system and Sweden in general. You will learn how things work at the University and in Sweden.

Social activities

Nexus social activities would occur mostly on weekends and evenings and usually includes hang-outs, themed parties, competitions, international dinners, entrance to different bars, restaurants, and clubs, to name a few.

  • Extremely enriching overall. Great way to form initial connections with people. I'd highly recommend it to all future exchange students! (Student from spring semester 2025)
  • The OP helped me to make friends, become more open-minded and get to know my way around the city and the campus within a safe and fun environment. (Student from spring semester 2025)

The OP comes with a participation fee of approximately 700-800 SEK, which is added to the housing invoice if chosen during the application process. We highly recommend our new exchange students to participate in the OP, which will guide you to your new life here in Sweden and to help you meet new friends.

If you sign up for the OP and pay the participation fee, then you will get access to the complete OP schedule, including all social activities from Nexus, closer to the exchange semester. In the meantime, you can find the activities organised by Örebro University below.

Practical, academic and social activities organised by the University are free of charge (meaning, you do not have to become a part of Nexus, nor pay for the OP-fee to participate). You can find these OP activities in the calendar below.

  • Reminders/updates about university-organised activities will be communicated over email to new exchange students - from the International Office.
  • New exchange students who wants to participate in the social activities by Nexus during the Orientation programme, will also be invited to their WhatsApp groups before the start of the semester.
