Statistics, Probability Theory, Second Cycle, 5 Credits

The course is intended for first year graduate students who major in statistics or in a field where the knowledge of probability is required. This course provides fundamentals for further study of statistics and data science. The course will start with set theory which is the basic of probability theory. We continue then with definitions of random variable, distribution function, density and mass function and introduce common families of univariate and multivariate distributions. The course will also cover basic concepts of random samples and convergence concepts.

When is the course offered?

Prerequisites: First-cycle courses of 90 credits in Statistics, alternatively first-cycle courses of 30 credits in statistics and 60 credits in mathematics, alternatively first-cycle courses of 60 credits in statistics including 7.5 credits of Statistical theory and 7.5 credits of Regression analysis/Econometrics. The applicant must also have qualifications corresponding to the course "English 6" or "English B" from the Swedish Upper Secondary School.
