Waste separation /Management of non-contaminated waste

Paper, cardboard, plastic and metal packaging

Paper, cardboard, plastic and metal materials that are not contaminated and have not been in contact with chemicals or biological materials can be separated and placed in receptacles in the dedicated recycling rooms located in each building. Boxes must be dismantled, flattened and placed on the trolley.

Small batteries

There are battery recycling boxes in the dedicated recycling rooms in each building. Batteries are considered hazardous waste, and are disposed of by the municipal authorities.

Glass waste

Laboratory glass (broken/sharp) must be placed in the box or other container dedicated for this purpose. The package must be well wrapped. If necessary, it should be placed in a larger laboratory waste box, sealed and taken to be sent away for further processing. Campus Almby: Waste container at the loading dock at Goods Reception F, small quantities of glass are disposed of as combustible waste.

Common waste items

Gloves, absorbent paper, spill protection devices, pipette tips, plastic centrifuge tubes, etc. which have not been in contact with infectious material must be thrown in the laboratory waste containers. Campus Almby: The containers are fitted with plastic bags which are managed by the cleaning staff. If there are large quantities of common waste types, the user should transport the packaged waste to the loading dock at Goods Reception F.

Non-combustible waste (landfill)

Certain types of waste such as ceramics, porcelain, mirror glass and large quantities of glass cannot be recycled and must instead be sent to landfill. Such waste must be left at the designated location on each campus, so that it can be transported to landfill.

Bulky waste

For example. broken laboratory chairs, apparatus, machines.
