Laboratory Safety Manual

GMM

All materials containing GMMs must be decontaminated before either being disposed of or washed for reuse. This can be done by autoclaving, or by other methods (e.g. chemical agents) which have already been proven to kill the agent in question at the time of the permit application. The agent must be killed as close to the source as possible. For agents in Hazard Group 3 and 4, this must normally be done before the waste/material leaves the laboratory. Once the waste has been inactivated, it can normally be disposed of as combustible waste or poured down the sink. The waste handling should be approved by the Swedish Work Environment Authority in connection with the notification or permit application.
